DevOps Engineer

Arelion is a leading light in global connectivity and we've been keeping the world connected for nearly three decades. Today, the world's largest operators, content providers and enterprises rely on our #1 ranked global Internet backbone, AS1299, for their premium data and voice services.

Job description

We are Arelion. You may not have heard of us; though, we are pretty sure you are using our network every day. As a Tier 1 Network provider, operating the most connected Internet backbone on the planet, we are quite passionate about what we do. If you peek under the lid, you’ll find all sorts of passionate geeks within; people who get out of bed each morning because they care for fiber cables, telco housing, routers, wavelength multiplex systems, and, even, software services. The one thing we have in common is our passion for the Internet and our honored customers.

We have taken a hybrid approach when it comes to IT infrastructure. Our applications and software services are running in AWS and our own datacenters located in two major cities in the EU. AWS is our firsthand choice. We apply some of the most modern technologies and concepts in our AWS environment, like IaC using Terraform and Helm to manage our EKS clusters. Automation is key for us, implementing CI/CD mainly using Github actions. Our monitoring solution is based on Datadog.

In order to let the Software Engineers focus on development projects, we are now looking to add two DevOps Engineers. Working with DevOps in the Software Engineering team will allow you to work closely with our Software Engineers and the Infra&Ops team to create and maintain the best possible environment for our applications. You will give us the best possible CI/CD pipeline, service availability, and proactive maintenance by mastering the components in our infrastructure domains. You need to have passion for IaC, Kubernetes, automation, monitoring, alerting, and continuous improvement. We’ll offer the right candidate to chance to work with us in a multi-skilled, cross-border team supporting a multi-national organization with demanding customers. We offer an open environment where you’ll be able to contribute, learn, and grow.

The main responsibilities are:

  • Automation of environments, tests, and deployments.
  • Continuous improvements in environments and platforms such as Kubernetes
  • Daily operations of environments and platforms

The main tasks are:

  • Automate detection of anomalies and errors in a variety of components involved in our software solutions.

Skills & Requirements

We believe that you have:

  • A degree in computer science or other relevant background
  • At least 5 years of relevant work experience
  • Required skills:
    • Infrastructure-as-code with Terraform targeting AWS
    • Github actions
    • Docker

    • Application scaling and high availability
  • Ability to plan your own work and work independently when needed but care about the team

  • We also expect you to be fluent in English, both written and oral

Your personal characteristics

You have a strong will to contribute to the development projects and to the team output as a whole. You are eager to learn new things and at the same time open to sharing knowledge and experience with your colleagues. Furthermore, you are open to working in a mix of methodologies, nationalities, and cultures. You love technology and doing things hands-on.
